Covid-19 messaging for vulnerable communities

November 5, 2020

Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in Birmingham and the West Midlands are disproportionately affected by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

People from ethnic minority backgrounds have a greater risk of death from COVID-19 due to demographic, geographical and socioeconomic factors such as living arrangements and jobs.

We've partnered with Birmingham City Council & Citizens UK to produce a series of videos in English, Mirpuri, Urdu, Shona, Ndebele, Tigrinya, Swahili and Somali.

Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in Birmingham and the West Midlands are disproportionately affected by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

People from ethnic minority backgrounds have a greater risk of death from COVID-19 than white people due to demographic, geographical and socioeconomic factors such as living arrangements and jobs.

Public Health England found people from black ethnic groups are most likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19, and death rates were highest among people of black and Asian ethnic groups.

This is deeply worrying and highlights the importance of ensuring that urgent action is taken to protect members of the BAME community.

We've partnered with Birmingham City Council & Citizens UK to produce a series of videos in English, Mirpuri, Urdu, Shona, Ndebele, Tigrinya, Swahili and Somali.

These videos have been commissioned by Birmingham City Council in partnership with Citizens UK Birmingham, Saathi House, Eurosom Community Midlands, Zimbabwe Agricultural Initiative, KSIMC Birmingham and DaErO Community Forum.
